Christmas Party

Posted 28 Dec 2021

The Christmas Party for Over 70s organised by Chatteris Town Council and held at the King Edward Centre on Friday 10th December 2021was a resounding success with nearly 70 Chatteris residents enjoying a traditional Christmas dinner with all the trimmings, entertainment, bingo and going home laden with goodies.

The Town Council decided to organise the party having been given a sum of money by the Good Companions club, who had unfortunately been forced to close. As the Good Companions club was for the elderly it was agreed the money should be spent on the older generation and a Christmas party was agreed upon.

Thanks to the generosity of Housden’s caterers, Jack’s Supermarket, Mr Mark Petrou, Mrs Florence Newell, Chatteris Town Council and Fenland District Council’s Golden Age Fair team what started out as a small event soon became a wonderful opportunity for residents to enjoy three hours of hospitality and good food while making new friends and acquaintances.

The event began with a bingo session organised by the Mayor, Cllr Linda Ashley, who then joined Chatteris Town Council officers, FDC officers, King Edward Centre staff, Housdens Caterers employees and volunteers in serving a delicious turkey dinner to the partygoers. Once the meal was over March duo Topaz kindly entertained with Christmas songs and carols, encouraging everyone to join in. There was a tombola prize and two bags of goodies for everyone who attended. Special thanks should go to the Town Council’s Financial Officer Mrs Angela Papworth for organising the successful day.
